Ube Jalea Mochi Recipe

I was looking for a healthy dessert or snack to give for mom on Valentine's Day. She loves buchi,  specially the one served in a famous Chinese food chain here in Baguio. So I searched in the internet for an easier and more healthy preparation of buchi. Like an answered prayer, I came across Christine's Recipe site of Mochi Recipe.  The mochi is just like buchi but cooked in steam.
Below is the Ube Jalea Mochi I made for mom. =)

Ingredients:
  • 220 grams glutinous rice flour (malagkit powder)
  • 110 grams brown  sugar
  • 210 ml water
  • 3 tablespoons milk powder
  • some dessicated coconut
Filling:
Ube Jalea or Ube Jam

Procedure:
  1. Combine all  dry ingredients: glutinous rice powder, brown sugar and milk powder and mix well.
  2. Add water mix well too.
  3. Transfer mixture in shallow bowl.
  4. Steam for 15 minutes or until mixture is cooked.
  5. Transfer cooked glunitous mixture on a greased surface.
  6. Cut it into 12-20 equal parts. Number depends on the size of mochi you want.
  7. Knead one portion and shape into a disc.
  8. Spoon some ube jam into the center of the disc and fold edges forming into a ball.
  9. Smoothen surface by rolling mochi between your gloved hands.
  10. Drop and coat mochi on plate with dessicated coconut.
  11. Do the same with the rest of glutinous.
  12. Serve in small paper cup cakes.
Enjoy!
