Valentine Pastillas

I know Valentine's Day is way over. I just want to share what my youngest son made out of his favorite candy, Pastillas. This Filipino candy is the very first he learned to prepare. He does not have to ask me whenever he craves for it only when he runs out of ingredients.
He transformed this humble but much loved Filipino candy into a no cook and no mold Valentine Pastillas.

He usually shaped pastillas into balls.

And made some heart shapes too.

Then he had a great idea to combine them into one. He came up to this cute Valentine Pastillas.

Ingredients:

Embedded Heart
40 ml (1/8 cups and 2 teaspoons) condensed milk
1 drop strawberry flavour (LorAnn Oil)
Some Rose pink food color gel
1/2 cup skim milk powder
Some butter

Pastillas Cover
150 ml condensed milk
1 cup skim milk powder
1/4 cup sugar

Preparation:
1. Make the embedded hearts first. In a small bowl with 40 ml condensed milk, add a drop of strawberry flavour, and some rose pink food colour. Then stir well to colour condensed milk.
2. Pour 1/2 cup powder milk and mix well until it forms like dough.
3. With greased hands, grab mixture, roll between hands to form cylinder or roll on a parchment covered flat surface for an even and long cylindrical shape.
4. Cut cylinder into shorter pieces and start shaping each into hearts.
5. With the use of chopsticks tip, make a straight indention lengthwise.
6. Opposite the indention markings, pinch that side to make it pointed. Do the same with rest of cylinders.
7. Check both ends of cylinder for desired heart shape.
8. Place cylinders in airtight container and set aside.
9. Time to make pastillas cover: In a larger bowl with 150 ml condensed milk, add 1 cup powder milk.
10. Mix well until both ingredients come together like a dough.
11. Cover flat surface with slightly greased parchment paper, transfer pastillas dough
12. Cover pastillas dough with another slightly greased parchment paper.
13. Flatten pastillas dough with rolling pin until it reaches desired thickness.
14. Uncover pastillas dough, grab one of the cylinders and place on top
15. Cut pastillas dough with a size good enough to cover cylinder. Then wrap cylinder.
16. Work and roll between hands to seal end. Do the same with rest of cylinders.
17. Grab a sewing thread strand with considerable length.
18. Put thread strand under pastillas, cross over both end, then pull them apart until thread cuts through the pastillas.
19. Sugar coat valentine pastillas and wrap in desired cellophane or just store them in airtight container.

Enjoy&Cook happy!😋
