Homemade Crema De Fruta

My first taste of Crema De Fruta is from Goldilocks. I could never forget this dessert then because of the delicious custard or cream used. Now a days, the custard in Goldilocks' Crema de Fruta has changed. So instead of buying, I decided to prepare it myself. Below is how my homemade Crema de Fruta turned out. : )

Ingredients:
  • 836 grams Fruit Cocktail
  • 250 ml All-Purpose Cream
  • 300 ml Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • Grocery bought large, plain chiffon or sponge cake
  • 12 grams gelatine powder (Magic jelly brand)

Preparation:
  1. Slice cake in 3/4 inch thickness. Set aside.
  2. Drain fruit cocktail from its syrup. Set Aside.
  3. In a small pan, mix sweetened condensed milk, vanilla and 4 eggs. Cook in a double boiler until it thickens. Remove from heat. Leave to cool down. Then add and mix all-purpose cream to the mixture.
    4. Assemble cake slices at the bottom of a square pan, spread half of the cream evenly and top  with half of the fruit cocktail. Do the same with the second layer.

    5. Put the fruit cocktail syrup in a measuring cup then add water to make 2 cups.Transfer in a small  pan and add 12 grams of gelatine. Heat mixture on the stove while constantly stirring until it comes to a near boil. Remove for heat. Let it cool and pour on top of the assembled cake.
    6. Put in refrigerator.
    7. Serve in slices.

Enjoy!
This Crema de Fruta is meant for my father's birthday. He thought at first that it was bought ready made and was surprised to know I prepared it an hour ago. : ) Happy Birthday Papang!

  2. How big was your sponge cake? As mine is 450g and will need to use 2 of those to fit a 32x26x4cm pan size. How large was your pan? Thanks for the recipe. I cant wait to try it.
