Angry Bird Cupcake Topper

How far a mother can go to make her son's 7th birthday memorable? It was my eldest son's special day last month. Since he's still so fond with this worldwide computer game craze; I made him Angry Bird Cupcake Topper.
So there I was again inexperienced but daring and facing a challenge: 'to make Angry Bird Cupcake Toppers' out of marshmallow fondant. Thanks to Great Wonders of INTERNET! and to Bake Happy site of which I learned at the same time made these toppers in half a day. : )

Finding the needed food color for the fondant was not even easy here in Baguio. There's no single store in Baguio town proper that specializes with ingredients and utensils for cake and cupcake decorating.: (  Funny thing, I bought these 4 different brands of food colors in 4 separate stores.

I still went making the toppers even without the appropriate utensils prescribed by Bake Happy site. I made use of different drinking straws for the eyes, also the food color cap came in handy for the red and yellow birds' white circles. I rolled and flattened the fondant with an empty glass bottle.

At closer look, I surely would not pass a professional cake decorator's mark. But for a first time try, I think my toppers were not bad at all. : )

If asked to do toppers again? I surely will for you my son! I will make it a point to be more prepared the second time around. ; )

I guess, more than my son, it's me who won't forget that day. Thanks a lot Bake Happy, you made my day awesome! : )

  1. Your first time to work on these and they look fine! I think with just a little practice you'll do very, very well.

Try searching for 'Bunny Baker' - they also have a page on FB. They weren't trained cake professionals but look where they are now! :-)
