Chayote In Oyster Sauce

I am taking advantage of my two sons' love for vegetables. In Kitchen Cow's site I found this recipe: Chayote in Oyster Sauce, another way of cooking sayote for my children.

 Ingredients:
  • 1 tbsp  canola oil
  • 3-5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 200 grams ground beef
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  •  3pcs. chayote
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsps cornstarch
  • 2tbsp oyster sauce

Preparation:
  1. Prepare chayote: peel then halve each vegetable.  Remove the seed, wash and drain. Then julienne slice.
  2. Heat canola oil in a wok. Add the garlic and sauté until slightly darker but not brown.
  3. Add the ground beef (I used beef because my family is abstaining from pork). When evenly browned, add fish sauce.
  4. When beef is almost done, add chayote slices. Sauté.
  5. Mix water, sugar, cornstarch and oyster sauce.
  6. When chayote is still crunchy but almost done, add the sauce.
  7. Let thicken a bit, then serve.
Thanks to Kitchen Cow's Recipe: Chayote in Oyster Sauce. I learned a different way of cooking chayote and added one more to my growing list of vegetable dishes. We (mother and kids) loved the crunchiness and sweet taste of the dish.

Enjoy!
